pretty sure that's not a real holiday

Pics from our most splendid Bites of March party:

Unworthy mortals! Tremble before my cuteness!

Next to eatin', we like sittin' and talkin' best.

Ow! It hurts to run on these cobblestones without my glass slippers! I hope someone finds and returns them. . .

This cookie is certainly delicious. So delicious, in fact, that I think I might make a ridiculous face.

Well, mom, I can't tell you where I was, but I can tell you where I wasn't, and that is in the bathroom playing in the makeup.

There are now knee prints in the carpet, because they never moved from this spot.

Well, I like vegetables, but all the peeling and slicing isn't enough work. Maybe if we dip them in batter and individually deep-fry them?

See how he's all laid back with his free hand in his pocket? He's like, "Yeah, I'm using a torch in the kitchen. This ain't no thing."

We are making a giant mess in the kitchen and the rest of the house.

The JC Penney catalog Men's Casuals section, as interpreted by The Dad.

Wow, even the air tastes good!

Aarrrgh!

The two crazy kids responsible for all these giant eating machines.

pics from the Treehouse outing

Superman, the Hulk and Aunt So and So are assembling the foam arch.

The Mom and Pinga are sleeping one off.

Captain America and Aunt So and So are excited to eat at a divey noodle parlor.

The Hulk is a master of Spoon Nose.

Pinga wishes she had a pair of purple Dickies like The Mom.

Superman and some random drive the fire engine.

Captain America and The Dad play an ostentatious game of Chess.

Superman is not rightwise born King of All England.

Robin Hood's mug shot.

some feed store THIS is

We tried a new chocolate cake recipe I was given and yea, verily, it was scrumptious.

Captain America: "What did you get me for my birthday?"

The Dad: "Well, I'll tell you, even though it will ruin your birthday. We bought you 99 red balloons."

The Mom: "We did? I thought we bought him 99 dead baboons."

The Dad: "We were going to, but then we couldn't find any Dead Baboon Chow."

The Mom: "Oh, that's right."

all children laugh

The Hulk: (scoffing) "They wouldn't get you that. You couldn't get 99 of the same thing."

Today was Captain America's birthday. He's getting baptized next week, which is crazy to me. I wonder if I can possibly be so old as that. I'm running out of time to learn how to be a good mom. So far I've been able to stay one step ahead of him, but his Child Learning is outpacing my Parent Learning, and before long he'll be smarter than me!
He refused to wait until the song was over to blow out the candles--he knows that you've got to move fast before Superman grabs fistfuls of frosting and ruins the birthday for everyone.

Pinga is getting a tooth, but is reticent about displaying it.

See how feverishly he assembles Anakin's Jedi Starfighter?

things done on Friday and Saturday

We had a fun weekend in which we went to the Treehouse Children's Museum in Ogden, which is totally worth the refreshingly affordable $5 charge for children and $3 for adults (I'm looking at YOU, Discovery Gateway children's museum in Salt Lake, with your $8.50). But Superman would pay the extra $3.50 out of his own pocket to have the Gateway's water area.

Saturday's Bites of March party was delicious and enjoyable.

I have pictures from neither of these events and am trying to cadge them from more responsible and all-around better people.

We had an incident recently in which the Hulk decided that he didn't like The Muppet Movie, and destroyed the DVD in a fit of pique. So he's been our house elf for the last week, and of course he thinks it's great doing tons of extra chores with me--for reals. CURSE THESE ADAPTIVE CHILDREN. I'm telling myself that it's because we discussed the repentance process and I commended him for taking the steps of confessing and asking for forgiveness, and now he's trying to make reparations.

why not?

Here's what Superman has been doing today:

Eating the butter . . .

. . . and drinking the syrup.

And why? Well, as with Mallory, because it's there.

over, under and through (da da dadada)

You guys. This is a great Sesame Street website where you can watch video clips. Before now we've had to watch them on youtube, which is a gamble, and the other day we ended up hearing some naughty swear words that some guy had dubbed over the real audio. You stay classy, America.

I'm a Sesame Street traditionalist, so it's nice to see these old clips again without the risk of seeing Elmo, and Zoe, and Abby Cadabby or whatever the crap her name is. I HATE THE NEW MUPPETS. Perversions of an art form, is what they are.

the mistreated children, a play in one act

CHARACTERS:
The Dad, a beleaguered father
Captain America , a 7-year-old with boundless energy
the Hulk, a 5-year-old with boundless energy
Superman, a 3-year-old with boundless energy

We open in the dining room of an older home in a state of remodeling.
The Dad, Captain America, the Hulk, and Superman are finishing a meal of leftover chicken and vegetables. There is much fidgeting and teasing going on.

Captain America: "Why don't you ever let us eat dessert when it's just you?"

The Dad: "What do you mean?"

Captain America : "When just Mom is here, she ALWAYS lets us eat dessert, and when it's you and Mom we ALWAYS get dessert, but when it's just you here we NEVER get dessert. Why don't you ever let us eat dessert?"

The Dad: (thinking to himself) "That's because I eat my dessert after you go to bed."

The Dad: (aloud) "Daddy needs to be on a phone call right now!"

grateful for sisters, not for soup

Captain America loves Pinga

Captain America wanted a sister for a long time, and was very happy when we had Pinga, because "there are too many boys at our house already." Heh.

The Hulk wolfing down the soup about which he said, "Everything in this soup tastes delicious! No more crap soup!"
