To the tune of "Found a Peanut."
Impetigo, impetigo, impetigo right now
Right now impetigo, impetigo right now
Sigh. Pinga is on another course of antibiotics, which I hate, to clear up her impetigo and to ward off her burgeoning ear infection. Dr. Matthews is not crazy about the idea of tubes, nor am I, so he wants to see her after she gets done with this course to see if she still has lingering fluid. While we were there he said, "John must have really good hearing, to be able to sing like that. Did any of your kids inherit that great hearing?" Non-sequiterish, I thought.

sometimes we have gender confusion
A phone conversation I just had with John:
John: "Hey--I'm going to record American Idol tonight."
Me: "Wow. So, when did you turn into a 12-year-old girl?"
(Give him some credit--it's the Salt Lake auditions, so it's totally civic pride that he's exhibiting. Don't judge, y'all!)

thoughts on a tuesday
Aren't school mornings the worst? Captain America was outside for twenty minutes today--in this cold!--before he came in to find the clippers to cut open a new bale of hay for the goats. I have no idea what he was doing, or why he would like to prolong his time outdoors, but he took another ten or fifteen minutes to feed the goats once he got the clippers. Then getting dressed was a whole other thing, and I was nagging and stuffing homework and lunch into his backpack and the bus was leaving and he was wandering around with his shoes off, doing up his belt, because he thinks he HAS to wear a belt to school for some reason, I don't know why. Yesterday was the same way. And then he expects me to believe that he didn't get in trouble at school. Hmmm.
I don't know if any of you have ever seen John going to or from work, but his "briefcase," we'll call it, is a plastic shopping bag. And his Elders Quorum bag is a paper sack that some piano books came in. During the Christmas season when he's really busy he usually has a number of bags, from Kohl's, Old Navy, Target, Burt Murdock Music. And he often has to take a change of clothes with him, if he's going to a rehearsal or performance, and the "bag" he takes his things in is only a bag in the very, very loosest definition of the term--it has handles and a large piece of fabric, upon which things can be placed and clumsily conveyed from point A to point B. It used to be a duffel bag, but the zippers are either clogged beyond repair or missing entirely. So when he packs, he just puts his things through the gaping hole that has been ripped in the side. I hate that bag so much. You have no idea the ill will I bear it. I would throw it away while his back was turned, but I think he really would have a hard time choosing between me and the bag. It might be a dealbreaker. This is the same man who wears socks until they are stirrups. So if you see John on the train sometime, don't be alarmed and think he's homeless. He's just frugal.
Pinga is going to the doctor today for another. freaking. ear infection. We had tubes recommended to us with the last one, so it might be the way of Conventional Medicine for us. I would try some kookoopants home remedy, but she's already had so many ear infections this winter that I am losing my resolve to play Home Doctor.
Often when I am cooking The Hulk will grab an apron from the pantry and get involved. It's nice when food isn't a wedge issue. I love having a labor force that is starting to pay back on my investment. Offloading the peeling chores is a real timesaver. And last night Captain America and The Hulk both got steak knives at dinner, which they didn't even use for evil, stabby purposes. It's a pretty big deal.

waste in the wrong place, part the frillionth
Superman just pooped on the rug in the bathroom. His words: "I was tooting, and some poop just dropped out." I'm not sure what he was waiting for before he got on the toilet, but prolly next time I'll sell him into Egypt.

family holiday
Friday night we went to Morgan with all my family and stayed in a ginormo house with a pool, air hockey/pool table, two ovens (Eee!), huge TVs and tons of bed- and bathrooms. We went tubing on Saturday, churching on Sunday, left on Monday and were eating all the while. Everyone pulled out all the stops and made incredible crunchings and munchings for us that made us behave ourselves disgracefully and eat like ravenous swine. If I can get some pictures on this stupid machine I'll add them.
On Saturday Superman went down the hill twice and was no longer buying any crazy. Some doofus wasn't watching when she crossed the tubing lane, and Aleece wrecked into her and mashed her lip all up, also endangering little Espn. Kids today with their rock music and their premature lane crossing!
On Sunday there was a great talk to be heard in Sacrament meeting if only one had a directional noise canceller with which to silence each of the many rude people in the congregation conducting business in normal speaking voices. I, thankfully, was in the mother's room with a rioting Pinga, so I was able to hear much of the speaker's sound parenting advice.
We made cookies on Sunday night and had an impromptu decorating contest, which I'm fairly sure I lost. Claire was a fierce competitor, but I think Justine's white-frosted heart edged with sprinkle detritus was the best.
Monday the kids snuck in a quick swim, then we left for home, stopping on the way at the Beehive Cheese Company, a little bit more about which can be read over on Baba Capra. After taking care of our grateful animals, we went to Logan to visit John's parents and feed people our leftovers, as well as expose them to the conjunctivitis that The Hulk had mysteriously acquired. You're welcome, family!

you're telling me, buddy
John was in a meeting earlier today, and there was a man from South Korea attending. The meeting gets over, and this happens:
Man from South Korea: "Oh. I just realized. You are a very handsome man. I don't see you very often, but you are very handsome."
John: (to self) ?
John: (aloud)"Thank you."

back to the grind
My house is an appalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable.
Well, not really, but I have been scaling an ever-growing Mt. Clothesheap for a few days now, and I think it's probably time I did something about it.
Pinga has a wicked ear infection in both ears and her eyes are so puffy she looks like she's been in a bar fight. Those kids and their darned curly Eustachian tubes! And stupid, useless amoxycillin. I don't know why anyone prescribes it anymore. Overprescription and abuse has rendered it totally ineffective.
We had a New Year's Eve party with yummy food. Thanks to all who participated.

those are the kind of prezies that show the most love
Superman: "Hi [Pinga]! Hi. Hi. Hi."
Superman (to John and me): "I gave her a noogie."
The Mom: "Don't give her noogies."
Superman: "But it was soft!"
The Mom: "Well, don't give her soft noogies either. Don't give her any noogies."
